The
Eastern Museum
of Motor Racing houses an outstanding collection of vintage race
cars and racing artifacts, as well as a research library of rare
books, documents, and photos pertaining to the sport of auto
racing. It also has a great gift shop full of many great books,
video tapes, souvenirs and more. While the museum strongly reflects the popularity of the
open wheel, dirt track racing so popular throughout the northeast,
you can also see a wide variety of other racing machines
from many other types of racing. These include everything from
sprint cars, midgets, motorcycles, Indy cars, NASCAR, drag racing
and more!
Just
down the road from the historic
Williams Grove
Speedway,
EMMR is located in
central Pennsylvania on a wooded hillside overlooking the historic
Latimore Valley Fairgrounds and Racetrack near York Springs, Pa.
This facility has been passionately restored to it's original 1930's
appearance, when the track featured it's famed auto racing on a
regular basis. Keep in mind this was all accomplished by the
Williams Grove Old Timers, a non-profit organization, relying
entirely on charitable donations from it's visitors and
membership.
Now,
several times a year EMMR holds events on the fairgrounds where they actually
turn loose those wonderful machines from yesteryear. If you love
racing, you'll love seeing cars from several decades all hot
lapping together around the track. While they don't quite run them
wide open, we're not talking about just a couple of parade laps
either. Each division enjoys several extended hot lap sessions
daily.
All we can say is if you don't get a big grin on your face
watching these cars circling the track in all their former glory... you'd
better check for a pulse!
Anyway...
the staff at TheVintageRacer.com
wanted to show
it's appreciation of EMMR by sharing photos from some of EMMR's events with everyone.
