Erick Erickson

Photo Album

Erick Erickson began his racing career in 1948 in his own Rockne Coupe, which he bought for a staggering $20! Rumor has it that he's probably the only person in the country to ever win in a Rockne!  As he refined his mechanical expertise and his driving skills, he went on to much success, many wins, and two West Coast Championships in 1949 & 1950.

After back-to-back top 5 finishes in the first 2 NASCAR races west of the Mississippi, Bill France invited Erick to compete with NASCAR "back east". Erick drove the very same 1948 Pontiac that he raced in California, all the way cross-country to compete at Darlington, NC... then on to Trenton, NJ... then on to Canfield, OH... and then on to West Memphis, AK. From there, he drove the car back to California and his home tracks!  Erick retired from his outstanding racing career in 1956.  Finally, in recognition of his accomplishments, Erick Erickson was inducted into the West Coast Hall of Fame in 2003.

Thanks to Erick's generosity, and the help of his son, Fred, TVR is proud to be able to share this look back at his racing career. The following photo captions provided by Erick's son, Frank. The dirt tracks are either Gardena Speedway or the "Old Ascot".  Both were in Gardena, CA. The asphalt track with the fence is Carrell Speedway, also in Gardena  Some shots may also be from Culver City.
