Carousel #5

A non-winged sprint car race on 4/16/77 was sanctioned by Ted Johnson's first "outlaw" club, "The Racers."  The event was officially called "The Eastern Sprint Car Nationals" and was a two day show. On Thursday night, 4/14/77, the program consisted of time trials & a special 15 lap match race pitting the seven fastest Lincoln regulars against the seven fastest "Racer" regulars. It was won by Kenny Weld, but it doesn't show up in Lincoln's All-Time Winner's List (or the book) since it was only open to a select few.

On Sat., the 16th, it was heats & the "Twin 25" A-main. Steve Smith won the first race, with Kenny Weld finishing sixth. The 2nd race was run without wings and the top 6 finishers of race #1 were inverted. The track got slick and "track position" was at a premium. Weld won race #2 and $1420.00.
