Boyd Arnold

Doug Arnold writes:

"Boyd was my father and drove modifieds and super modifieds in central Pennsylvania from 1955-1968.  He raced mostly in the area of Bedford and Everett, but also ran regularly at Hagerstown, Port Royal, Williams Grove, Winchester, VA, and other tracks in the area.

I’m not sure whose car he is pictured with, but I don’t ever remember him regularly driving the #007.  In that picture, you will notice the whiteness on the back of his right hand.  That is where he suffered burns in an accident with Mitch Smith (in his Tiger car) during a restart at Port Royal on May 7, 1966.  He was driving the O.F. CONNER #49 Hemi Hummer at the time.  He and Mitch both spent time in the hospital in Lewistown.

I have enclosed some pictures of the primary cars that Dad drove.  The following is the chronology for these pictures to the best of my ability to remember and verify.

The tracks listed are the main tracks I remember Dad racing at in those years. He raced a few races at other tracks in these cars such as St Thomas Speedway, Lincoln, Selinsgrove, Roseland, Windber, and probably a few others, but I’m not sure which cars he raced at which tracks.

Feel free to post any pictures you want to.  Also, if you could ask any of your readers if they have any pictures of my Father, I would really like to see them.  Sorry, I can’t be more exact on the specs on these cars, but my Father is no longer around to ask for any details on them.  He died in 1993.

Sincerely,
Doug Arnold
